Websites make use of handy and useful techniques that increase user-friendliness and so make the site as interesting as possible for every visitor. The best-known example of these techniques are cookies and scripts (referred to here simply as “cookies”). Cookies can be used by website administrators or by third parties – for example, advertisers – who communicate via the website you are visiting.

The use of cookies is safe. No personal information, such as telephone number or an e-mail address, can be derived from cookies. For this reason, cookies cannot be used for e-mail and telemarketing actions.

We think it is extremely important that you know which cookies are used on our website and for which purpose they are used. It is our aim to guarantee as much as possible both your privacy and the user-friendliness of our website. Below you can read more about the cookies on

Functional cookies

Cookies that ensure that the website works properly. We use the following functional cookies.

Google Analytics
Google Analytics is used on the website of Paleis Het Loo to gather anonymous data about surf behaviour. In this way, we can see how visitors such as you make use of the website. We use this information to make well-founded decisions about how our website is designed. In addition, we also use it to optimise the operation of the website. Statistics are created from the information we gather in this way. These statistics provide an insight into how often our website is visited, where exactly the visitors spend most time and so on. This allows us to make the structure, the navigation and the content of the website as user-friendly for you as possible. We do not trace the statistics and other reporting back to persons.

The information obtained by Google is stored on servers in the United States. Google also provides this information to advertisers, in order to give them insight into the effectiveness of their campaigns. Google may also transfer this information to third parties if required by law or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. We have no influence on this. We have not permitted Google to use the analytic information gathered for other Google services. Read the privacy policy of Google for more information, and also the specific privacy policy of Google Analytics.

And if you don’t want your click behaviour to be recorded? Then you can download a browser plug-in to prevent this via the Google website. This setting then applies to all websites you visit, and not just that of Paleis Het Loo. You can download the browser plug-in here.

Primary functions
These are cookies that are absolutely essential for the operation of the website. Without these cookies, certain sections would not be usable. On the Paleis Het Loo website, cookies are used for logging in and for reactions. Cookies are also used to remember settings and preferences.

Social buttons
The site includes buttons to let you promote or share pages on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and LinkedIn. These buttons are pieces of code from the social media themselves, and make use of a cookie. These cookies remember that you are logged in so that you do not have to log in to Twitter or Facebook every time you wish to share something. To review that they do with the personal data that they receive with this code, you can read the privacy statements of Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn (these are regularly updated).

Embedded content
In blog articles and on other pages, use can be made of content hosted on other sites and embedded on the Paleis Het Loo website. Examples of this are the Couverts reservation app, YouTube videos and online box-office modules. These codes often make use of cookies, in much the same way as the social buttons. What they do with the cookies and personal data can be found in the privacy statement of the service concerned. We have no control over this.

Cookies for the benefit of  behaviour-related content of a web page

Our aim is to provide visitors to our website with information that is as relevant as possible to them. That is why we try to adapt this website as much as possible to each visitor. We do not do this just with the content of our website, but also through advertisements that are shown on the internet.

To make such adaptations possible, we try to get a picture of your probable interests on the internet, without building up a profile that can be traced to a specific person. We adapt the content and the advertisements on the advertisement network to various groups of clients based on these interests.  For example, based on your surfing data, you could be placed in a certain category, such as ‘women in the 30 to 45 year-old age group, married with children, and an interest in fashion’. This group will then of course be shown different advertisements than the segment ‘man, 20 to 30 year-old age group, unmarried and interested in travel’.

Third parties who place cookies via our website can, in this way, try to discover your interests. The information about your current website visit can, in that case, be combined with information from earlier visits to websites other than ours. If such cookies are not used, this does not, by the way, mean that you won’t be shown any more advertisements within the advertisement network. The advertisements will no longer be adapted to your interests.

Other / unforeseen cookies

Because of the way internet and websites work, it is possible that we do not have an insight into the cookies that are placed via our website by third parties. This is particularly the case when our web pages contain so-called embedded elements; these are texts, documents, images or film clips that are stored by another party but which can be shown on, in or via our website

If you should encounter cookies that fall into this category and which we have thus not mentioned above, please let us know. Or contact the third party directly and ask which cookies they place, what the reason is for this, what the life span of the cookie is and in what way your privacy is guaranteed.

Browser settings
If you do not want websites to place any cookies whatsoever on your computer, you can change your browser settings so that you are warned before cookies are placed. You can also adjust the settings in such a way that your browser refuses all cookies or only cookies from third parties. You can also remove cookies that have already been placed. You will need to change the settings in every browser and computer you use.

You should be aware that if you do not want any cookies, we can no longer guarantee that our website will work properly. It could mean that several functions on the site could be lost or even that you can no longer view certain websites. What’s more, refusing cookies does not mean that you will no longer be shown any advertisements. The advertisements will then no longer be adjusted to reflect your interests and will be repeated more frequently.

The way to change your settings varies for each browser. If necessary, consult the help function of your browser or click on one of the icons below to be taken directly to the instructions for your browser. If you wish to disable cookies from specific parties, you can do that via

compatible_chrome   compatible_safari   compatible_opera   compatible_ie   compatible_firefox

Final remarks
We will have to adapt this statement from time to time, because, for example, our website or the rules concerning cookies change, and we may do this without any prior warning. You can consult this web page for the latest version.
